Ricky Carmichael moves closer to the 250 championship .... Grant Langston takes charge in the 125's
250's: Ricky Carmichael swept both motos. He is looking good to win his second consecutive 250 outdoor championship. Should he win, it would be his sixth National Championship. Tim Ferry took second overall with moto finishes of 3/2. Kevin Windham finished third today with a 2/3.
Carmichael leads Windham in the series point standings, 440 - 390. Mike LaRocco rode the Honda CR 450 four-stroke. Ryan Hughes would normally be on it, but he sat out the race due to injury. Kevin Windham will be replacing Hughes on USA's Motocross des Nations team.
125's: The 125 title is now a battle between Grant Langston and Mike Brown. Grant dominated today's racing by winning both motos. Mike Brown finished second overall by going 3/2. Third overall went to Rodrig Thain with a 5/4 score.
Langston leads Brown by three points in the series championship. There are two events (four motos) left in the series - Binghamton and Delmont.
Travis Pastrana was at Millville. He started the first moto, but pulled off the track while running third. Because he was not able to train over the past few weeks, he felt that he was not able to compete at the level of the other riders. He said he is feeling 100%, and did not pull off because of previous concussions or injuries. He pulled out solely because his physical conditioning is not up to par. He did not ride the second moto, and chances are that he will not compete at the final two rounds. Travis did win his third consecutive X-Games gold medal earlier this week in the freestyle competition. Mike Brown will replace Pastrana on USA's Motocross des Nations team.

250 class: Team Suzuki's Kevin Windham helped keep his championship series hopes alive by battling his way to both moto wins. It wasn't easy as he passed defending champion Ricky Carmichael for the lead in each moto. Kevin is second in the point standings behind "RC" with three rounds to go. Carmichael finished second overall by finishing second behind Windham in each race. Ricky's still in command of the points lead, 390 to Windham's 348. Yamaha's Tim Ferry rode consistently to finish third overall with a 3/3.
125 class: Mike Brown on his SplitFire Pro-Circuit Kawasaki crushed all competitors by winning both motos. With the sweep he's won four motos in a row counting last weekend's event in Troy. He leads Grant Langston by 5 points in the championship chase, 327 to 322. Langston finished second overall on the day by finishing second in the first moto, and third in the final moto. Rodrig Thain finished third overall with scores of 4/5.
Defending National Champion Travis Pastrana has been having a run of bad luck lately: A fall and concussion at Unadilla, not able to practice that following week leading up to the Troy event, falling hard in practice here at Washougal and injuring his shoulder, falling on the first lap of the first moto, and falling again in the second moto. Travis is now third in the point standings with 311 points.

Ricky Carmichael and Larry Ward emerge victorious ....
Ricky Carmichael won both motos in the 250 class to extend his series
points lead over Kevin Windham. Ryan Hughes scored a fifth in the first
moto, and followed that up with a strong second in the finale to nab second
overall. Carmichael's team-mate Stephane Roncada had his best showing of
the season with third overall via moto finishes of third and fourth.
With the win, "RC" is now tied with Bob Hannah for the AMA's all-time
record for outdoor national motocross victories - they each have 37 wins.
Carmichael leads Kevin Windham in the point standings 255 to 222.
Larry Ward took home the overall win in the 125 class by finishing second
in each moto on his YZ 250 F. Series points leader Travis Pastrana won the
first moto, and finished fourth in the final moto to take second overall.

Motocross 338
Southwick MASSACHUSETTS

Ricky Carmichael takes his Team Chevy Trucks/Kawasaki to a double moto
sweep in the 250 class, and Travis Pastrana on the US Suzuki wins the 125
class.
250: RC shook off the first moto problems that have plagued him in the
previous three rounds by winning the first moto after a battle with early
leader Joel Smets. Smets is the defending 500 World Champion from Belgium
riding for KTM. With a break in the schedule for the world motocross
championships, some of the top stars of the Grand Prix circuit raced here
today, including Smets and 250 World Champion Frederic Bolley from France.
Ricky cruised to the second moto win as well, making this the defending
champion's first overall victory of this series. Second overall went to
'hometown' favorite John Dowd on the big-bore KTM by finishing third in
each moto. Third overall went to Mike LaRocco with a second and fifth in
the two races. Another hometown rider competing at Southwick was Doug
Henry, who finished eighth overall. Smets finished sixth overall, with
Bolley 10th.

125: Coming into the event, many fans were looking for a battle between
series points leader Grant Langston and defending champion Travis Pastrana.
However, it was not to be - at least for this weekend. Grant fell in
practice on Saturday and injured his shoulder. It was expected that he
would not be able compete at all. But with the help of medical staff, and
Grant's own perseverance, he did compete. (An interview with Grant will be
online next week.) Travis Pastrana took the overall win by finishing second
behind Mike Brown in the first moto, and winning the second moto. He now
has the points lead with 169 vs. Langston's 161. Mike Brown won the first
moto convincingly, but problems in the second moto held him back to ninth.
It was good enough for second overall. Nate Ramsey used consistency to net
third overall with moto finishes of fourth and fifth.

Sebastien Tortelli and Grant Langston come away the victors from today's
racing at Hangtown.
Tortelli won the 250 class on his Honda/Universal Studios CR 250 by winning
the first moto, and finishing third in the final moto. National champion
Ricky Carmichael finished second overall on the day. He had some problems
in the first moto, but was able to finish in fifth. He came back to win the
second moto just like he did last weekend at Glen Helen. Third overall went
to Mike LaRocco on the Amsoil/Dr. Martens Honda with a 2/5 afternoon.
Grant Langston won the 125 class on his Red Bull/KTM with a double moto
sweep. Langston is perfect so far in the outdoor series: four races - four
wins. National champion Travis Pastrana had race finishes of ninth and
second to give him second overall. Third place went to Pastrana's Suzuki
team-mate Rodrig Thain with finishes of fourth and ninth.
