El Cajon, CA Three-time National Four Stroke Motocross Champion, Lance Smail, and rising motocross talent Kelly Smith, will compete in the 1999 Pace/AMA Supercross series as the official KTM Sportmotorcycle USA Supercross team.
Confident in his abilities to translate his 4-stroke prowess to 2-stroke machine, Smail, the '96, '97, & '98 AMA Western National Four Stroke Champion, will shift gears and campaign a 1999 KTM 250 SX during 1999. Smail's goal of becoming one of the countries premier motocrossers, compelled him to focus on Supercross.
Looking to expand its supercross effort, KTM has recruited hot, young up and comer, Kelly Smith. The east coast motocrosser finished 2nd overall in the 1998 AMA Eastern National Four-Stroke Championships, earning national number 64 along the way. For 1999, Smith will compete aboard a 1999 KTM 125 SX in Eastern division series competition as well as a select few Western Division 250cc warm up events.
The team will be managed by Selvaraj Narayana, who has 30 years experience in the U.S. motocross scene. Tom Moen will serve as crew chief.
